Drop-in sessions

What’s Drop-in football?

Weekly Football Availability

We almost always have spaces available every Tuesday, Wednesday, and Friday for footballers to play.

  • We have 48 spaces in total each session.

  • In 8 years, we have only reached full capacity 6 times.

If you're 35 or older, there's a good chance you'll find a spot to play!

How to Join & Play

If you're over 35, have £10 per game, are happy to communicate via WhatsApp and Spond (the app we use for sign-ups), and are willing to sign up to our player-club contract and constitution, you’ll be very welcome to play—as long as you sign in by 9am on the day you want to play.

Session Timings

  • Tuesday & Wednesday8:30pm to 10:15pm

  • Friday8:00pm to 10:00pm

⚠️ If you can’t show up on time for the poem, please don’t sign in.

How to Sign In

  1. Download Spond from your phone’s app store and create a free account.

  2. Click here to sign up and request to join the Lewes FC Vets Drop-Ins Spond group.

  3. Our Membership Secretary, Chaz, will contact you to confirm your sign-up and add you to the Drop-In WhatsApp group.

  4. Tick in on Spond before 9am on the day you want to play.

    • If you don’t sign in, you cannot play.

    • Members take priority—if there aren’t enough spaces, the last Drop-Ins to sign in will be the first to be told they can’t play. Sorry in advance, but we have to manage numbers somehow!

  5. Watch for announcements in the Drop-In WhatsApp group to confirm if you're playing.

What Do We Expect From You?

  • Sign in on Spond before 9am on the day you want to play.

  • Bring the right kit:

    • A black top and a yellow top (this helps the 1 in 12 male footballers with colour vision issues). Not stripes, not green, not dark blue please- black and yellow.

    • Shorts, socks, shin pads, water, and appropriate footwear (scroll down for footwear details).

  • Warm up before you arrive!

    • The first session may be physically challenging—be prepared.

  • Relax into the game.

    • You have nothing to prove—enjoy your football!

    • We want you to come back, not get injured within 20 minutes of playing.

  • Show respectful, caring behaviour:

    • Arrive on time.

    • Help set up and collect equipment at the end.

    • Retrieve balls quickly if they leave the 3G pitch.

    • No goalhangingstay onside at all times. This means don’t hang out in offside positions or regularly hang off the shoulders of defenders.

    • No slide tackles.

What Should You Expect?

  • There’s always a facilitator running the evening—they will be outside the 3G.

  • They will welcome you, introduce you to the group, and explain how things work.

  • At the start of the session, we bring everyone together for the poem, then team announcements.

  • We usually play a series of matches, though facilitators may mix up the format.

Come and join us—if you’re old enough, you’re good enough!
